Ardgarry Farm is ideally situated for touring the West Highlands, as roads lie in three directions from Invergarry. To the west lies Fort William with all the usual amenities you would expect to find in a town. To the east you travel along the length of world famous Loch Ness to the beautiful city of Inverness. Alternatively, you could visit the Isle of Skye with its breathtaking scenery. We have put together here some suggestions of places that you may like to visit during your stay with us.


There are some lovely walks in and around the area including:
  • Loch Lundie: make your way over the stile at the top of the field, along the path to the right up to the loch. (40 mins approx). It is also possible to walk to the Bridge of Oich and Fort Augustus via the Loch.
  • The Glen Garry forest walks and waterfalls.
  • Foyers Falls and the beautiful forest walks. At Fort Augustus turn right and follow the road leading to the South side of Loch Ness.

Nevis Range gondola - fun to take a ride on during the summer, and essential if you are planning a winter ski holiday
  • Nevis Range: Ride the Gondola for spectacular views, good skiing, three downhill mountain bike tracks and walks, food available from the restaurant. Located on the A82 some 4 miles this side of Fort William. Telephone 01397 705825
  • The Abbey, Caledonian Canal and Locks, and General Wade's road at Fort Augustus.
  • Urquhart Castle - On the side of Loch Ness. Located on A82 about 1 mile west of Drumnadrochit.
  • Cawdor Castle and gardens. Fairy tale castle linked with Shakespeare and Macbeth. Located off the A96 between Inverness and Nairn. Telephone 01667 404615
  • Glen Elg. This is where Gavin Maxwell found inspiration and wrote the famous book about the otter. “Ring of Bright Water”. Located off the A87, towards the Kyle of Lochalsh.
  • Glen Affric - Surely one of the most picturesque places in Scotland. Beautiful Lochs and Forest walks
Cawdor Castle, a fairytale castle to the north of Inverness, with its links in folklore to Shakespeare's Macbeth.  Well worth a visit and a firm favourite of many visitors
Glen Roy, famous for its "parallel roads" dating back to the Ice Age
  • Kinloch Hourn (sea fishing) remote location. From Ardgarry turn onto the A87 towards Kyle of Lochalsh for 4 miles, turn left for Tomdoun/Kinloch Hourn, then continue to end of road and follow the old path down to the sea.
  • The foothills of Knoydart - one of the last wildernesses in Europe. One of the prettiest Glens in the area.
  • Glen Roy - See the Parallel Roads left by the Ice Age. Location, Spean Bridge, A82 road to Fort William.
  • Commando Memorial Monument - Location, Spean Bridge (east) A82 road to Fort William. Visit the Commando Museum in Spean Bridge.
  • Isle of Skye - Location, 52 miles west on the A87, reached via the beautiful road to Kyle of Lochalsh.
  • Ben Nevis- The highest mountain in the UK (1343 metres). Glen Nevis, the venue used in the making of the films Braveheart, Rob Roy and Harry Potter. Location 2 miles from Fort William.
  • Highland Wild Life Park and Highland Folk Museum. Located on the A9 at Kingussie, South of Inverness. (01540) 651270

  • Fishing locally - On Loch Oich, Loch Lundie, River Oich, and the River Garry. Salmon, Trout, Pike and Char are regularly caught. We can issue permits for all, except the River Garry.

  • Boat trips to Seal Island from Fort William.
  • Boat trips on Loch Ness from Fort Augustus. The boats are fitted with sonar which can plot the bottom of the Loch and highlight fish shoals. The boatmen claim to have picked up large unexplainable objects on sonar while cruising on the Loch. (01463)233999
  • Glencoe ski centre chair lift. Spectacular views over Lochaber the White corries and Glencoe.
  • Pony trekking at Torlundy. (01397) 703015 close to Fort William, Highland riding centre Borlum Farm Drumnadrochit. (01456) 450220, and The Inverness Equestrian Centre on the South side of Loch Ness.
  • Loch Ness Monster exhibitions at Drumnadrochit. ((01456) 450342 or 450573
  • Monster Activities on Loch Oich. Windsurfing, Canoeing, Water Skiing, Fishing, Boat hire and Clay Pigeon shooting. 2 miles West of Invergarry on A82 towards Fort William.

  • Golf courses at Fort Augustus - 9 holes testing (01320) 366309. Fort William-18 holes (01397) 704464 and Spean Bridge (01397) 703379 are all only a short drive away. There are five more courses all within an hour’s drive, of which three are at Inverness.
  • Eden Court Theatre Inverness (01463) 234234
  • Clay Pigeon shooting at Glen Morriston, Fort Augustus and The Monster Activities.
  • Several walks from the campsite, many more can be accessed locally
  • Cycling. We have several mountain bikes available for hire. There are a number of cycle tracks close by, taking you through forests, along Lochs and the Caledonian Canal. It’s possible to cycle West to Fort William or East to Invermorriston and beyond, hardly using any public roads.

Scotch Whisky - make room in your bags to take some home with you!
  • Eating out locally. There are numerous pubs, hotels and restaurants at Fort Augustus and further afield at Spean Bridge and Fort William.
  • Whisky – There are over 400 malt whiskies available produced by a number of distilleries, several are within easy reach.
